MINSK, Belarus (Reuters) — Bulgaria beat Belarus 2-0 thanks to a double by Dimitar Berbatov on Saturday to keep up the pressure in a tight Euro 2008 qualifying Group G. Berbatov opened the scoring with a great solo effort in the 28th minute when he dribbled past three defenders before beating Belarus keeper Yuri Zhevnov with a low shot into the far corner. The Tottenham Hotspur striker added the second just after the interval, firing past Zhevnov from 12 metres after being left unmarked inside the box. He could have had a hat-trick but his long-range blast hit a crossbar in the 23rd minute. Bulgaria keeper Dimitar Ivankov denied Belarus their best chance, stopping a header from Parma striker Vitaly Kutuzov midway through the first half. The win took Bulgaria to 12 points from six matches. The Netherlands and Romania, who won 2-1 in Slovenia, both have 14 from six. All three are unbeaten. Belarus, who play Bulgaria again on Wednesday in Sofia, look out of it in fourth place on seven points.
